About the golf course

Founded in 1890 by Englishmen settled in the city of Porto, it is the oldest golf club in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the first in continental Europe.

The first name from which it was known was Oporto Niblicks, a name that had its origin in the most used club - the niblick - a direct consequence of the course being almost entirely in sand.

It is estimated that the initial number was 24 members.

In 1900 a new pitch was built, no longer entirely in sand, and the name of the club was changed to Oporto Golf Club.
